Welcome Parents and Students! I am very excited about the upcoming school year! I believe that every child is unique and learns in different ways. It is my job to help your child discover his or her individuality, and I will work alongside them to maximize their potential. We will be learning in many different ways in order to make the most of your child’s time throughout the school year. I've referenced some of our frequently asked classroom policies. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact me by calling MAMS (715-748-2516) or emailing ([email protected]).
Classroom rules: Include showing respect to all people at all times, using appropriate language and gestures, following directions and assisting in providing a positive learning environment. Consequences are subject to re-teaching, detention and/or visit to either Mr. Hraby or Mr. Leonard's office.
Behavior and Late Work Citations: If your child finds his or her behavior is not meeting the classroom expectations, a Behavior Citation will be issued. After 2 citations, I will contact you to discuss the issues and future goals. After 5 Behavior Citations, a detention will be given. If your child turns in late work, a Late Work Citation will be given. After 5 citations, I will contact you to set a plan to minimize the late work. You son or daughter will stay in during recess for 'restricted recess' for 1 week to work with me or anther teacher on completing the assignment(s). After 10 citations, your child will be in 'restricted recess' for the remaining quarter. These citations are wiped clean after each quarter. Allowing your child a fresh start.
Daily assignments: We work each day in the classroom on different activities throughout my subject units. I also incorporate work time each day, so that my students should have limited ‘homework’ for my subject areas when this time is used appropriately. I try to be very conscious of how busy family life has become. You child will be expected to complete assignments on time. Restricted recess will be assigned to students who turn in a late assignment. During this time your child will work with a teacher to complete the assignment(s). For each late assignment, 10% will be take off an overall responsibility grade for each subject.
Online grades / Grading System: MAMS has been posting grades online for several year now and this is a wonderful resource to access. Please contact the District Office for an assigned user name and password. If you do not have computer access, progress reports can be mailed home every three weeks, if requested. I can also print off your child's grade to bring home. At MAMS we use the traditional grading system: A = 90 to 100% B = 80 - 89% C = 70 - 79%
D = 60 - 69% F = Below 60%.
** I want everyone in the class to have the opportunity to 'master' curriculum concepts. With this in mind, I will write a dated note on the assignment asking the student to please fix and return any work earning a D or F grade. This strategy has proven to help students with accountability and responsibility in one's learning.
Daily assignments: I operate similarly to a math teacher in that we work each day in the classroom on different activities throughout my subject units. I also incorporate work time each day, so that my students should have limited ‘homework’ for my subject areas when this time is used appropriately. I try to be very conscious of how busy family life has become.
You child will be expected to complete assignments on time. Fifth grade students may be ** restricted recess ** asked to work with a teacher during recess if late assignments need to be completed. For each late assignment, 10% will be take off an overall responsibility grade for each subject.
